My sister the avid birder is in town visiting friends and family. So, when it was my turn to spend time with her today, I took her up to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge west of Brigham City. Last year, the refuge was SO dry from the drought that it was pretty depressing (and worrisome for the health of the migrating birds). But this year, with all of the snow we got over the winter, there was LOTS of water in the ponds, canals, and river. And the migrating birds have flocked there in big numbers. Let's hope the trend continues.

The only drawback was the hordes of mosquitoes and midges. But, hey, we spent most of the time in the truck and still saw a bunch of birds. And my sister, from St. Louis, got to add quite a few new species to her life list. Oh, yeah, we also had a blast together. I almost forgot to mention that because we ALWAYS have a blast together.
