Sandhill Cranes and More (21 images)

This morning I went on a bird walk at the Swaner Nature Preserve and Ecocenter in Snyderville Basin. It's that large green space just south of Kimball Junction near Park City. Our group of enthusiasts was able to walk all over the preserve looking for a wide variety of birds. We even spotted a moose!

But the star of the day turned out to be two "colts". That's the term for baby sandhill cranes. The eggs, very near the visitor center, ended up hatching about a half-hour after our tour ended. Good thing I went back one last time to check on them! Anyway, this post is about sandhill cranes. And other feathered friends. For the record, there are plenty more nesting sandhill cranes at the preserve. These just happened to be REAL close to the visitor center.
