Bighorn Sheep (23 images)

Another post from yesterday's hike on the Hidden Lake Overlook. This one features both flora AND fauna. As we began the hike, we saw a few bighorns off in the distance. We enjoyed them for 10 or 15 minutes, but wished they had been a bit closer. So off we went on our hike.

Well, after the hike, and literally as we were getting back into my truck to leave, we saw more bighorns as they slowly emerged from the trees, grazing and approaching the parking lot. And then more. And more! Eventually, we counted almost twenty in the herd!! It was by far the largest heard I have seen. And CLOSE! In fact, the Park Rangers had to scare them away to keep them out of the parking area and away from the visitors. It was an unexpected, thrilling end to a terrific hike.
