Antelope Island Bison Roundup

I spent the day today with a friend out at Antelope Island for the annual Bison Roundup. We were looking forward to a fun day, but it was WAY more fun than either of us expected. We had a bunch of conversations with riders, including the vet, and learned a whole lot about the details of the event than I ever knew.

Riders start driving the Bison from the south, past the ranch, along the east side of the island. Then up and over the mountain and eventually on in to the pens. State Park officials have made the event much more visitor-friendly over the years. So we all had a decent chance to safely see them closer as they approached the pen.

Officials will begin vaccinations and health screenings in several days, then hold an auction in a few weeks to manage the size of the herd. It is a terrific event to witness... or, if you are a rider, to participate in! More info is at: https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/antelope-island/bison-roundup/
